Cu chi - 22.08.2012

today we visited a place here in Vietnam called Cu chi. Cu chi is a relict from the vietnam war where you can go and watch how the vietnamese soldiers hid in the trees in the war and what kind of traps they build in the forest/jungle and you could also watch the tunnel system under the ground. They sold lots of souvenirs there but i didnt want to buy any of them. Also it was possible to shoot real guns and machine guns and stuff, but i didnt want to try this because i am to pacifistic. Which is also why i didnt shoot any photos of this.

eating crocodile - 21.08.2012

Yesterday  evening we went to a restaurant for dinner which serves crocodile.
I know i am vegetarian and don*t eat animals anymore , but i have never tried it and was curious how it tastes like , because crocodiles are such dangerous animals.
So i tried it and it was good. But i would not eat it again. Because i want to be vegeterian.
But now everyone here tells me that i am not a real vegeterian :(

I have a photo of the crocodile here before they killed it.

tailor in ho chi minh - 21.08.2012

On tuesday we went to a tailor for my friend*s suit. He bought 3. I also wanted to buy a suit (the suit has been measured 1 or 2 weeks before already), but the tailor was not able to measure me. So we will probably have to go to this tailor another day. A new suit from the tailor costs about 50 euros for the people here in vietnam. The owner of the tailor shop said that the suit will probably be a bit more expensive for me because i am so tall. But i don*t know whether this is the real reason. Maybe it s simply because im not vietnamese. Because yes i am tall but also very thin...

extending my vietnam visum - 20.08.2012

On monday my friend*s two uncles drove us through the city again and tried to help me to extend my vietnam visum for some more weeks. Because the visum would end on the first 31st of august and i want to stay a bit longer here.
Well the result is that i still don*t have my ticket but this office still has my passport.
Next week we want to travel into the north of vietnam. Maybe i can get my passport as soon as i have my ticket for the flight.

Vung Tau - 18.08.2012 - 19.08.2012

In Vung Tau on our first day we first went to the beach and then had lunch at a pretty restaurant very close to the coast. They served a lot of fresh food from the sea like fish, but i prefer vegetarian food.
The vegetarian food was really delicious i especially like the spicy mushrooms :)
The restaurant was really pretty as i said because it was at the water.
My friend made these two pictures of me in this restaurant.

On our second day we also went to the beach and in the evening we had a drink at some cafe.
I only drank an orange juice because with my injury i don*t want to drink any alcohol.

traveling to vung tau - 18.08.2012

Last weekend we rented a bus and went to a city at the coast in the south of vietnam called Vũng Tàu.
To get there we needed about 3.5 hours although on google maps you can see that the distance is only about 100 km. The reason for that was that obviously the roads here in vietnam aren*t the best and also the vehicles are not the best. So if you hit a a pothole with your car and or bus it doesn*t feel so nice.
Also on most roads only about 60 km/h were aloud.
So most vehicles seemed to drive not faster than 60 or 70 km/h which made this distance, which is not a long distance at home in germany, here a very long distance.

visiting a market in ho chi minh - 17.08.2012

on august 17th we went to a small market where i bought a new t-shirt for 135 000 dong , which is about 5 euros. I needed a t-shirt so bad because i only had brought two of them to vietnam.
At  the end of the day we went to a nice restaurant , and then we had a massage at some saloon somewhere in ho chi minh. The massage was okay but not as incredibly awesome as expected. I think i have had better massages back in germany.

first days in ho chi minh city - 14.08.2012 - 16.08.2012

So i*ve been here at ho chi minh city now for about a week. Unfortunately my foot still hurts a lot so i cant walk long distances. But fortunatley the taxis here are quite cheap so i was able to make the most distances by taxi.

I arrived at Ho chi minh last tuesday (14.08.2012) in the evening. There my friend*s father and uncle picked me up at the airport.

We then took a taxi to the city where my friend had already booked a cheap hotel for the night.

It  costed only about 8 euros per night. In this night i had dinner at very small restaurant near our hotel.

Because it was so late i decided to order a non vegetarian meal because it would have been too hard to get a vegetarian one at about this time of the day.
Which is quite unusual because i am vegetarian and am not used to eat meat.

On the 15th of August we visited my friends relatives. The two uncles of my friend then drove us through the city
on their rollers, because we needed to change some euros into dong. One euro is about 26 000 dong.
What is quite interesting is that everyone here in vietnam rides a roller. Few cars. Lots of taxis and buses.
The people here told me that obviously everyone is riding a roller because the fuel is so much cheaper.
And if people dont have so much money this is a cheap way to move. So i think if people want to get from A to B
alone they take their roller. If an amount of people wants to get from A to B they either rent a taxi or take the bus.
Here a small picture of the streets of Ho Chi Minh city and the many people who ride their rollers.

It*s funny that here in Ho Chi Minh every street looks exactly the same.
Here are some more fotos:

As you can see in this picture many people here in vietnam wear these "masks". I first thought they
would wear them against the gases and so on because the air might be dirty from the many rollers and so on. But now i think they simply wear them as a protection against the sun - especially the girls because they want to have white skin.

last day at home - 12.08.2012

So today is the last day where i can sleep in my own bed.
Because tomorrow i'll start for my big journey, where i want to travel around the world.
It will be a bit more difficult as i had planned in the past because i still have an injury at my achilles tendon. But i am trying to stay optimistic that everything will be allright :) I took this picture a few weeks before i left home. It's just the view out of my window, from my house. The special thing about it is that I can see almost the whole city, if I look out of that window :) .
